Read MoreAs long as we can remember, we've always had a thing for numeric typography. It has always spoken to us from the very beginning when we first started with the various ways we've incorporated numbers into the decor of No. 1450 cottage. I think it's such a cool aspect in design, and it continues to catch our eye, especially with authentic pieces like this vintage metal sign.

Read MoreThis past spring at Marburger, we found these absolutely amazing aged glass panes at the Counter Culture booth, owned by Chad Kilgore. By the time we got there, Chad had already sold all of them, which was so sad! But luckily, he was able to secure a few more once he went back home to Kansas City. We were able to snag a few from this sought-after collection.

Read MoreBack in its day, this vintage French sign may have served as a signal post for military traffic or a town road sign. Today, it serves as a sign post from the past with the its vintage paint and worn edges.
We found this cool sign in the French town of Marseilles, which is a beautiful beach town on the water. As we explored and took in the sights, you could really feel the soul of this old French town. It was such an incredible experience visiting this amazing place, much less being able to shop for priceless antiques there.
This vintage sign is an authentic French piece. Today there is a tremendous amount of vintage and antique knock-offs, so there's something to be said about the soul and stories carried with an authentic piece. We think this sign was used on a military road, so each man or woman who drive by it had a story and a reason for being there. That's the soul that these pieces carry with them throughout the years.
This charmingly worn sign can bring a bit of French nostalgia to your home decor. Lean it on a shelf among other cherished trinkets or hang it amid your gallery wall.

Happy Father's Day!
Read MoreAs I'm sure you've heard/seen by now, we re-painted the exterior of the house from blue to Nordic black! We gave a little sneak peek back in February, but today we're posting additional photos and giving a little more background into the Modern Vintage Style choice. If you haven't yet, you can read more about my family's Scandinavian heritage and how that played into our black color choice in our Sneak Peek post.
There are about a million different shades of black, so it's always hard to make a choice. Especially when so many are just ever so slightly different. But, we ended up picking this particular shade, which is Valspar Lincoln Cottage. We liked that is was a true black, and did not have overt purple or blue undertones. We felt like it paired best with the white trim and stained wood.
Along with picking the color, we also had to pick a finish. From flat to eggshell and satin to gloss, there are so many choices and things to think about when choosing a finish. We decided to go with the satin finish because it gives the black a silky quality and it's much more durable than flat. And we feel that the satin finish matched the Modern Vintage Style the best.
We loved the idea of black and white, not only because of my Scandinavian heritage, but also because it is very clean and modern. We added the stained wood for warmth and interest. We couldn't be happier with the outcome.

Found in the French town of Nimes, this beautifully aged "L'illustration" book dates back to 1891. From the illustrations and articles on the pages, this bound piece of French antiquity seems to be a periodical or world book.
