For the past 10 years, Smoot and I have talked about wanting to relocate our family. We didn't know exactly where, we just knew there was something missing. We love our home in Houston, but the constant feeling that there was more, out there, waiting for us, kept the conversation going. After our home flooded last year, our son starting high school in the fall and our youngest daughter being open to an adventure, we knew it was now or never.
We settled on the Austin area, Lake Travis to be exact, for its rolling hills and funky vibe. Smoot went to UT and I have always loved visiting. The creativity that radiates from the city, that still somehow feels like a town, always recharged my batteries. As it stood we were going a few times month for work and found ourselves going for fun more and more, it was the natural choice.
This past weekend we went to Lake Travis to try it on, officially. We boated, we ate, we Austin'd and it felt so right. Like we were exactly where we were supposed to be. Change is scary. Its daunting, its invigorating, it forces you to get out of your comfort zone and try something new, do things a little differently.
One of our main goals in life is to live with intention. We talk with our children about it, we write about it, we publicly speak about it and it was time to walk our talk. The goals we have for this little business of ours, are nothing short of reaching for the stars, we have been so fortunate with all of the opportunities and relationships we have made so far, we wanted to keep the momentum going. And Austin seemed like the perfect platform for taking that giant leap. Additionally, our construction business has grown statewide, making Austin the perfect central location to operate it out of.
Of course, the down side of our move is that we are leaving family, friends, neighbors. However, part of our decision was made by the fact we'll only be two and a half hours away and will be coming back often for work, special occasions and just to keep in touch.
We are going to be leasing a home for the first year while we decide how to proceed with our Hill Country home. Another one of the deciding factors was wanting a home that better fit our style. While our home in Houston was perfect for what we needed it to be, a modern vintage home it was not. We found ourselves yearning to be at The Vintage Round Top all the time, to be in that space, to be surrounded by all the stories and treasures from our travels. So, we will be creating a space better aligned with our style to be our new family home.
We have some big plans in the pipeline, some closer than others, and we cannot wait to share them with you. Thank you for following along with us on this journey and stay tuned!
