Continuing on our Boho collaboration series, today we’re featuring Jon Dahl of Jonathon Dahl Woodworks. Jon is a dear friend of ours and we knew he would be the perfect person to create the sophisticated cabinetry we had in mind for our Boho cottage. Our goal was not just to add cabinets to the space, but rather make them appear as furniture, seamlessly integrated into each room. The detail and intricacy of his work is remarkable, and we feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to work with him.
Jon’s passion for woodworking began as he worked alongside his father, a carpenter, at a young age. He continued to hone his skills throughout high school and while attending Southwest Texas University. After 22 years in business, he attributes much of his success in his craft to his lifelong mentors: his father and his Industrial Tech program teacher, Larry Carlton.
His shop is located in Cypress, Texas (down the street from where we use to live) on the site of an old dairy farm with 100 year old oak trees. He works for a variety of residential and commercial clients in Houston and throughout the United States ans was asked to be a part of Coastal Living Magazine's 20th Anniversary Idea House last year and was featured in their magazine.
One of our favorite pieces he made (even though we love every one of them) was the guest bathroom vanity. We gave him a long piece of perforated metal we had found at one of the antique shows. He cut it into 4 pieces and custom fit them into thick doors, then used a full piece of oak for the vanity counter. Take a peek at the before and after below!
You can see Jon’s incredible work firsthand by staying with us — he created the cabinetry in the kitchen, as well as both guests vanities. Sharing the work of talented artists with our guests is one of our favorite parts of The Vintage Round Top! Find out more about Jon by taking a peek at our Q&A with him, by visiting his website here, or following him on Instagram.
