Before owning The Vintage Round Top, Paige was the Vice President of Page Parkes Models. Smoot has owned and operated nightclubs and restaurants in Houston, Los Angeles, and Rio de Janeiro, several of which have been featured in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and LA Times Magazine. One of his most notable co-creations, the ever popular Empire Café located in Houston, is still successfully operating to this day. After selling his last restaurant, he was hired to run a start-up toy design company that won numerous awards, including Top 10 New Toys by CBS News. Since 2004, Smoot has owned and operated State Contractors, a successful general contracting business that specializes in the remodeling of apartment complexes. Smoot, along with his team at State Contractors, renovated and continues to help build onto The Vintage Round Top.
The Vintage Round Top grew organically from a casual Saturday drive with our three children in the Fall of 2011. That afternoon we stumbled across a farmhouse for sale in Round Top, Texas and began to dream about the possibilities. What seemed like an ordinary day, turned out to be the beginning of a new adventure. We purchased and completely renovated the home with clean, modern lines and vintage touches. We used reclaimed materials whenever possible and made most of the lighting and furniture from found objects.
Not only were we concerned with the environment, but we also wanted to create unique pieces that told a story. We decided to develop a vacation home rental business and share our home with others. After several guests asked to purchase items we had repurposed, we entertained starting an antique and decor business. Being located in Round Top, home of one of the most renowned antique fairs in the country, this seemed to be the right next step on our journey.
In 2012 we jumped at the chance to be mentored by Tim and Carol Bolton of Carol Hicks Bolton Antiquities in Fredericksburg, Texas. With their guidance and encouragement, we traveled to France to buy one-of-a-kind pieces with the opportunity to sell our goods at Marburger Farms Antique Show and developed an online shop filled with our vintage finds and curated handmade items.
The Vintage Round Top has since been featured in numerous local, national, and international print and online publications as well as coffee table books including Country Living Magazine, Apartment Therapy, Texas Monthly Magazine, Houston House & Home, Houston Chronicle and Dallas Morning News, just to name a few.
We are humbled by the genuine reaction to our labor of love, and feel our pathway has been guided by God and the honest soul of our home. We believe in hard work, following our passions, and going after our dreams. Creating The Vintage Round Top business together has been a dream come true and thank you all for your continued support.
